Fill in the Blank Friday – Colour

1. My favorite colour is   green   .

2. My home decor colour palette includes a lot of greens and creams.

3. Other people always tell me I look good in the colour     green and brown – not a far leap for us gingers.

4. The colour I detest is puce – does this really need further explanation?

5. If you were to look in my closet most of the colors you’d see would be jeans and black – what can I say? I’m a SAHM.

6. A colour that I simply cannot pull off no matter how hard I try is   most pastel colours. Although I’m fortunate to have lots of freckles on my face which make it seem like I’m not as pale as most other redheads, pastels just don’t work for me.

7. The colour of my favorite dress is   a non-metallic gold. I have a beautiful evening dress that matches my haircolour, with a lace overlay. It hides everything and accentuates what I want it to accentuate. Don’t have many opportunities to wear it though – think the last time I wore it was when I was breastfeeding and frankly, I was just happy it still fit me!

Fill in the Blanks Friday – 01/13

1.   The last thing I ate was pear cupcakes. A friend gave me a package to bake them with the kids, so my daughter and I made them tonight for my knitting club (otherwise known as “Stitch & Bitch”…tee hee!).

2.   The last song I listened to was…I have no idea. I was driving today and the radio was on, then the kids’ TV. Honestly, I just try to tune it all out, unless I really need to hear some music.

3.  Using the letters in my name I can spell (Meghan): Megan (even though this is “spelt wrong”…tee hee), Meg, me, hag, a, an, gem, gah, nag, mag (does that count? It’s a short form…), hem, mean.

4.  If I had to dress in one color for the rest of my life I would pick black. It matches everything, almost all accessories “work” with it, and most of all there are still black jeans and many choices of yoga pants. ;)

5.  If you were to look in my bag right now you’d find my wallet, my daytimer, a notebook, cue cards (don’t ask), a granola bar, gum, ponytail holder, small hair clip, large hair clip, pens, pencil, winter hat, mittens, work gloves, a bunch of papers I need to recycle, and some garbage I need to throw out…I really need to sort through this more often!

6.  When I finish filling in the blanks I’m going to call my man, and then go to bed.

7.  My all time favorite song to dance to is…umm, I have no idea. My favourite song is dependent upon my mood.  One minute, it’s top 40 pop music, the next it’s Gabriel Faure’s Requiem, then the next it’s Oye Como Va. I have posted a list of my favourites before here.

Happy Friday the 13th! :)

Fill in the Blank Friday – First of 2012

1.   One of my favorite things to do when I have free time is curl up with my man and watch a movie, or go skating with him and/or my kids.

2.   When I have free time I tend to blog, visit my favourite websites, or call a friend.

3.  If I had an entire day completely to myself I would actually do those quality “me-time” things I never have time to do…wander around a bookstore, go for a walk (well, not when it’s -25 degrees Celsius like it is now), enjoy a chai, get a massage, or maybe just spend the day at the lake reading a book, etc.

4.  I would prefer to spend my free time (alone or with others…) with others. I’m an extrovert through and through, which means I rejuvenate by being with others.

5.  Most of my free time happens on weekends when my kids are at their dad’s place.

6.  The best thing about free time is the possibilities of what you can do with that free time.

7.  The next time I have free time I should probably    be cleaning, doing laundry, getting more organized, etc   but instead, I’ll probably be trying to do as little as possible, whatever that looks like at that moment.

Happy new year!

Fill in the Blank Friday – New Year’s Theme

1.   New Years is when I can start a new calendar…and yes, this makes me happy.

2.   One of my New Year’s resolutions will be to start journaling again. I was meticulous with it at the end of my marriage and for a year and a half afterwards, but I’ve gone away from it.  New year = new journal book.

3.  A New Year’s resolution I’ve made in the past was to NOT watch TV one night per week. Kept it up for about 4 months but then I got really ill with my fibroid and basically spent my time in the bathroom or living room, trying to conserve energy because my iron levels were dangerously low.

4. The most time consuming resolution I ever made was…hmmm, can’t think of one as I don’t really make resolutions per say.  I just decide to do something, and do it.

5.  This year I will be spending New Year’s Eve with my man, we’ll actually be together at midnight – last year, we weren’t “us” yet, and he had to go to work so he left at 11pm. We’re fixing that this year.

6.  If I could wish one thing for my new year it would be to be a more present parent.

7.  2012 is going to be my year! According to the Chinese Zodiac, it’s the year of the Dragon…and I’m a Dragon so…bring it on!

Happy New Year!

Fill in the Blanks Friday – Christmas theme

1.   The best way to spread Christmas cheer is to have an open heart and an easy smile for everyone around you.

2.   The thing I love most about Christmas is the lights, colours and sparkles (let’s face it, I am a girl after all…if it sparkles, it’s all good!).

3.  The holiday season is a time for being with those you love, and being thankful for having them close, whether physically close or close in your heart.

4. My favorite thing to eat at the holidays is my mom’s minced meat tarts…yummy!  She always has to make twice as many as she needs because she knows I’m going to steal them.

5.  I will be spending Christmas with my man and his family. My kids will be at their dad’s for Christmas this year, so the three of us will be celebrating with my parents when they return mid-week.

6.  Tis better to (give or receive?) give, give and keep giving…gifts and giving of your time.

7.  I’m dreaming of a    stress-free (seems to be working so far!) and relaxing     Christmas.

Have a happy Christmas everyone!

Fill in the Blank Friday – 12/16

1. My most favorite “little thing” is that my man learned very quickly and continues to remember my Starbucks order (I won’t mention that my ex-hubby never learnt it until AFTER we split…hmmm…).

2. I give anything to have someone else do the kids’ weekday morning routine, get their lunches packed, and them ready for school and IBI…just one day. I’m not asking for much. Any takers? No. I didn’t think so. Oh well.

3. I can’t believe how well my daughter did at her school’s Christmas concert last night. She came home from school yesterday and declared “Mommy! I have something wonderful to tell you!”. She was so excited to be going on stage for the concert, and she didn’t realize she was going to do that until the dress rehearsal that happened yesterday afternoon. She did awesome! She led her class with all the actions that went with the French song “Père Noël”…even when she was so excited to be performing and forgot to finish the song, and the rest of her class followed her lead. It was priceless!

4. The one thing I’d like to achieve today is finishing decorating our home for Christmas. We’ll see if I’m actually able to do this.

5. The last thing I want to do today is clean up after a sick child. My son felt quite hot when I checked on him when I went to bed last night, so only time will tell. Fingers crossed…

6. If I were writing my own blank today, it would say: “The best ‘trick’ I use around the house is…”.

7. My favorite candle scent is really dependent upon my mood, but French vanilla or anything with cinnamon are safe choices for me…but they can’t be the cheap smelling dollar-store candles.

Fill in the Blanks Friday, with a theme…ugh!

Ugh. This week’s “Fill in the Blank Friday” from The Little Things We Do has a theme, to honour their 4 year wedding anniversary. Officially, congrats!  I remember those days of being happily married. I sometimes even miss those days. But if you’ve ever read my blog, you know my feelings towards being out of my marriage, so this is a tough one to complete.  I’m not really a “reflect on love and relationships” kind of girl.  My man and I “work” because neither of us are interested in getting married again, nor do we feel the need to define our relationship. We just “are”, and we “are” very good together.  So, here goes…

1.   Love is completely blind, and not just because there’s a famous saying that says so (who coined the phrase anyway?). When you are in love, you are blind to someone’s weaknesses or even worse, to your reactions to them…and hopefully that isn’t a dangerous thing. You need to trust yourself and your instincts before you can know that you are truly in love – wow…that almost sounded wise.

2.   Being in love feels like comfort. Knowing we are there for eachother, for good things and stressful situations.  My man stuck around and supported me through the months leading up to, the day of, and recovery after my first surgery.  I learned tons about him and his character throughout that time…he’s definitely a keeper!

3.  My favorite quote about love is…hmmm, honestly, I had to Google “quotes about love”. I’m not very “girlie” about love. My belief is that you either are in love, or you aren’t. No need to discuss it at great length. You either smile when you see his name on your call display or in your inbox, or you don’t.  If you roll your eyes when you see his name pop up, it’s past the time to finish.  So, in my 2 minutes Google search, I came across a quote from Marilyn Monroe that made me smirk: “A wise girl kisses but doesn’t love, listens but doesn’t believe, and leaves before she is left”.  Yup, I’m cynical…but at least I admit it, and my man accepts it (plus, he may be a bit cynical too…so that helps).

4. The most important thing in a relationship is not something I have figured out yet. I could say the standard “communication”, “respect for eachother”, “make eachother laugh”, and also knowing yourself, but I haven’t actually mastered it…mind you, my man has stuck around for a while now so either we’re both bad at it together, or I may have inadvertently done something right in the last year, but I don’t want to jinx it.

5.  A “deal breaker” for me in a relationship is abuse. Does it really need explanation beyond that?
6.  The way I show love in my relationships is between my man and I, plus there’s the occasional surprise delivery of Coke…makes him happy.

7.  I love …do I really need to say it?  He knows who he is.

Fill In The Blanks Friday – 11/18

1.   A nervous habit I have is  hmmm…I’m not sure. I used to crack my knuckles when I was nervous, but that was when I was a kid/teenager. Now, I’m not sure what I do when I’m nervous. I guess I don’t find myself in many situations where I am nervous. Thinking back, I think I flap my hands to release some tension but that’s just a couple flaps…and only in front of someone I trust to show that nervousness to.

2.   Something that makes me sad is  when my daughter mentions that she misses our dogs that passed away. She’s said it a few times recently, and then she seems to move past it quickly enough, but it makes me sad every time.

3.  Today I am thankful for  being able to volunteer in my daughter’s Grade 1 French Immersion class.  Since I’m one of the only parents of the kids in her class who is fluent in French, I was able to work with 6 of her classmates individually on their counting assignment booklets. It was a great afternoon!

4. My favorite room in my house is  my bedroom. All earthtones, pillows, photos, books, etc. It’s a very calming room…when the kids and I aren’t wrestling in there of course. ;)

5.  I can’t stand  when people think they know everything about how to manage kids with Autism because they met someone once who had Autism. I can’t remember who said it but “when you meet someone with Autism, you have met only one person with Autism”.  There’s a reason it’s called “Autism Spectrum Disorder.

6.  If I had an extra $100 to spend on whatever I wanted today I would  replace some very worn down articles of clothing I own. Our clothing budget is basically zero so, whenever I can allocate money towards clothing, it goes to the kids’ needs rather than my own.

7.  The last person I hung out with was  my man. My days are filled with tons of appointments, school bus schedules, and being taxi to get my son to IBI so I don’t have much time to “hang out” with people unless they come to me in the evenings.  When I do have free time, I usually spend it with my man.

Fill in the Blanks Friday – 09/23

1.   The best thing I did all week was sign the contract for my son to start IBI next Tuesday! 3+ years on the waitlist and it’s finally here!

2.  A special someone makes me super happy.

3.  Pets are necessary…but I don’t have time for them at the moment so we “borrow” my parents cats and dogs.

4.  My kids is/are the best thing about my life.

5.  With the cooler weather I am looking forward to slow cooker cooking, baking regularly, and snuggling up under blankets.
6.  Something that’s on my “wish list” right now is comfy yoga pants that are long enough for this 5’10” girl. My “need list” is a part time job…inside or outside the home. Anyone offering? ;)

7.  This weekend I am going to be finally pulling all the winter clothes out and seeing how much no longer fits my kids. They are growing even faster than I thought they would be!

Have a great weekend!
