Fill in the Blanks Friday – 10/21

1.  Nothing says fall like fragrances such as pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and getting the slowcooker going again.

2.  My favorite autumnal tradition is playing in the leaves with my kids. We have 40 acres to play in this year!

3.  My favorite fall treat is a pumpkin scone at Starbucks, with my usual chai-latte.

4. Fall makes me think of my birthday because my birthday weekend tends to be when the weather starts to change.

5.  Autumn free form word association, go! Good red-head colours (ie: earth tones), changing colours, gerbera daisies, mums, cable knit sweaters, pumpkin pie.

6.  My go-to outfit in the fall is jeans and a sweater, with heels if it’s not pouring rain out.

7.  My favorite fall holiday is (Halloween or Thanksgiving) Thanksgiving all the way! Pumpkin pie!!!  Yummy!

Fill in the Blanks Friday – 09/23

1.   The best thing I did all week was sign the contract for my son to start IBI next Tuesday! 3+ years on the waitlist and it’s finally here!

2.  A special someone makes me super happy.

3.  Pets are necessary…but I don’t have time for them at the moment so we “borrow” my parents cats and dogs.

4.  My kids is/are the best thing about my life.

5.  With the cooler weather I am looking forward to slow cooker cooking, baking regularly, and snuggling up under blankets.
6.  Something that’s on my “wish list” right now is comfy yoga pants that are long enough for this 5’10” girl. My “need list” is a part time job…inside or outside the home. Anyone offering? ;)

7.  This weekend I am going to be finally pulling all the winter clothes out and seeing how much no longer fits my kids. They are growing even faster than I thought they would be!

Have a great weekend!

Fill In The Blank Friday – 09-02

Time for Fill in the Blank Friday…and the best one, seeing as it’s the Friday before the long weekend AND my son just gave me “butterfly kisses” with his lips for the first time!  It’s a GREAT day!

1.  One thing that is completely superfluous, but that I could never give up is chai. A few cups a day keep me (relatively) sane.  It’s my form of daily “me time” and it’s even portable to take to the park, Early Years Centre, appointments, or just in the car during long drives.  Pocket book and taste buds disagree between made-at-home-Tetley-chai and Starbucks chai latte. Tetley is an acceptable substitute though.

2.       Confrontation      makes me feel awkward and uncomfortable. It’s a trait us Librans are not comfortable with at all.  Experience has made it even worse for me.

3.  I can’t live without, my kids. Does this really need clarification?

4.  Jalapeno Cheddar Doritos is my favorite snack.  When I realize I’m going through too many each day (and feeling it in my clothes…grrr), carrots with spicy humus is a very good substitute, and healthier too.

5.  Lately I’ve been a bit stressed with Back to School, but now that I’ve seen my son’s school bus, met the bus driver and written the Social Story for him, I’m feeling quite a bit better.

6.  If at first you don’t succeed try, try again. The old saying is true for everything.  If you can’t figure out why the microwave isn’t working, make sure the door is completely closed.  If you can’t figure out why the room is smelling, check all diapers in the vicinity, then look for the hidden rotting peach core.  If you can’t get the damn kids DVD to work when you are going to pull your hair out, put a different favourite in…they’ll only complain for a few minutes.  If you don’t get marriage right the first time, keep looking for the one who accepts you and your children for who you are (no 2nd marriage for me though!).

7.  Fall is almost here. The colours, the beauty, the harvest, fresh vegetables, kids are back in school, the cooler days that aren’t 40 degrees Celsius and higher…ahhh.  Unfortunately, winter comes quickly…grrrr.

On The Injured List

Normally, school pick up entails picking the kids up, chatting with DS’s Educational Assistant for a few minutes to see how his day was, and then we head across the street to “the Butterfly Garden” if we have other plans, or the park then the Butterfly Garden then home. Yesterday, this is NOT what happened.

Everything looked normal until the supply EA let go of DS’s hand BEFORE I had ahold of his hand. In that split second, he bolted. Three adults went to grab him. We all missed. I’m sure it looked a bit like baseball players all going for a fly ball. I had been carrying DD and lost my footing. Down I went. DD was crying, DS started crying because DD was crying. Honestly, I was trying really hard not to start crying too. Unbelievable pain! A bunch of fellow kindergarteners were coming over asking if my daughter’s “mommy was okay”. All I could say was “no. I’m hurt. Please give me space”. My left knee was banged up, left foot toes were scraped, the side of my right foot was twisted…which made for a painful 2 minute drive home.

Some things I’m thankful for from this situation…

  1. I was able to turn just a tiny bit when I was falling so I didn’t land on my daughter, and was still able to protect her from really hurting herself.
  2. The kids’ father was able to take the kids overnight. There was no way I could handle the stairs in our home to put the kids to bed. We have a sunken bathroom with only two steps and those are hard enough to manage, let along the 20 or so steps to upstairs!
  3. A friend of ours was with us for school pick up. He caught my son after he bolted, was able to carry him to our mini-van, get us home, help me into our home, manage my kids, and get them fed. He even told me to make a stop at Starbucks on the way home to get me my favourite Starbucks order…gawd he knows me! Thanks AS!
  4. My neighbour kept my daughter entertained between our friend leaving and the kids’ father coming to pick them up. Thanks JM!
  5. My daughter was and continues to be such an amazing help…she’s holding my hand to “help me” whenever I have to move somewhere this morning, and she even wrote me a “get well” card this morning too.

This morning’s biggest decision for me was, do I put the tensor bandage on my right foot or my left knee. Went with the right foot.
